Organizations of Gignes

Stoneshield dwarves right after a bloody foray into the outside world.

The entities listed below are confined within the continent of Gignes. See Gignes for more location details.

Baroquian Elves[edit]

These extremely xenophobic elves are as mysterious as the lands they live in. Very little is known about them except that of the port city of Tirshan and the great wall that cuts off the city from the rest of Baroque.

Dawnforge Clan[edit]

This small dwarvish clan resides within the southern edge of the Clandeggin Mountains. They keep to themselves and have from time to time had to deal with bullying brown dragons flying up from the Desert of Rovanda. The cleric known as Brökk Dawnforge hails from this clan.

Degginkin Clan[edit]

A clan of mountaintop goliaths, the Degginkin are a brutish but honorable peoples who reside in the Clandeggin Mountains back when they were called the "Grand Guard Mountains." The hero known as Yirgauk hails from this clan.

Kargen[edit]

A rite of passage for goliaths of the Degginkin Clan, Kargen consists of a series of hand-to-hand combats between the initiate and the rest of the clan. It is designed to test the tenacious spirit of the initiate, rather than to prove skill. If the initiate manages to challenge each other member of the tribe without taking a break or giving up, he or she becomes a Hokken.

Hokken[edit]

The title of a Degginkin goliath who has passed the rite of Kargen. They are revered as the toughest and most tenacious individuals of the clan.

Grotains[edit]

Also known as the "Angry Flail," this small group of zealous followers of the evil deity known as Asmodeus travel from town to town, rooting out all semblance of goodness whilst sewing seeds of evil and malice in a very efficient manner.

Ironbreaker Clan[edit]

[more to come soon] Creators of Verdinen.

Puddlefoot Clan[edit]

This large family of halflings lives mostly in quaint hamlets dotting the Tauren River. Gonz Puddlefoot hails from this family.

Ruddarvik Clan[edit]

An ancient dwarven clan that dwelled underneath the Clandeggin Mountains. They were a key organization involved in the War of Two Vales. The great historical figure Orbin Ironbreaker once belonged to this clan before being exiled.

Silent Wind[edit]

A group of druids that protects the Wood of Keen Eyes from unnatural harm, led by Harlis. Gonz Puddlefoot was a member of this group. They have a grove in the Wood of Keen Eyes.

Stoneshield Clan[edit]

The Stoneshield Dwarves reside within the Zauk Mountains in the southern portion of the Taurenian Peninsula. These dwarves have reportedly been around since before the founding of Taurenia and have built expansive mines underneath the Zauk Mountains. They trade only with the humans of Taurenia and occasionally with other nearby dwarf clans such as the Ironbreakers.

In times of crisis, the Stoneshield has been known to help defend the peninsula and Taurenia from invaders and have thus carried an alliance with the humans since the country's founding. But tensions have always been a bit high between the two organizations, primarily due to their racial differences as well as the political influence from the other neighboring dwarf clans who do not fully appreciate the imperialistic qualities of the Taurenian armies.

The Stoneshield's capital city of Strongheim acts as the gateway to the surface and is primarily the only part of their underground empire that is seen by outsiders. The Stoneshield royalty and nobility resides in grand palace of Uraed which lies deep below Strongheim and is at the entrance of the mines.

Taurenia[edit]

Through trade and imperialism abroad, the kings of Taurenia (see location details here) have made a name for themselves and for their nation since the country's founding in TH 1179. Taurenians (who consist overwhelmingly of humans) are known for their grand ships that can traverse the Millagea and beyond for both trade and invasion. Their immediate neighbors, including the elves at Baroque and the dwarves of the Strongheim mines in the Zauk Mountains have kept a delicate alliance with Taurenia (not without the help of Gethefre) and have traded wares for centuries. Taurenians believe they actually has control of Strongheim, despite what its citizens may think, and have influence over the citizens of towns as far as Rennora and Haven.

They trade with other island states such as Delia and the Archipelago of the Coipor Alliance.

Taurenia and the Bull[edit]

Taurenian culture is heavily influenced by the bulls that roamed the Tauren Fields of the southwest portion of the peninsula. There are many heirlooms from the ancestral Taurenian bull tamers that reside within hidden and protected chambers of Castle Taurenia. Rumor has it that there is in fact a labyrinth in the castle's dungeon that protects these heirlooms. It is said that the Taurenian ancestors reside within the great minotaur statues in the labyrinth.

The Founder of Taurenia[edit]

One particular Taurenian legend stands out among most other stories - the legend of Frin, the First Bull Tamer. Frin was particularly small for a human so much so that strangers would even mistake him for a halfling. But he had a special knack for taming the bulls roaming the peninsula. He became so adept at this that he had learned how to become as one of them - being able to take on the bull form. Having mastered this unique ability, he built an organization of bull tamers that would later become known as Taurenia. Frin's legendary horned helmet is said to give its wearer his ability to transform into a bull - but this artifact has been lost to history for centuries. The locals still believe that Frin's spirit still resides within the bulls of Taurenia.

Verdinen[edit]

Created circa. AB 2000, Verdinen is the primary export of the small farming community of Mineroc. The plant is a genetic derivative of the sentinel pine trees that grow in the Verdinedel Forest, but it is also mixed with strains of popular dwarven crops grown underground such as the common mountain moss and the Grand Guard mushroom. The result of these plant strains creates Verdinen – an evergreen-like plant that bears delicious and extremely nutritious berry that has a dark teal hue to it. A handful of Verdinen berries can feed a grown adult human for 3 days, which makes it incredibly valuable. Merchants from all over the Vale of Lost Memories and further abroad in Gignes come here to buy the rare fruit and in turn trade their various wares. The berries are used in several different culinary creations, ranging from Verdinen Berry Pie to Verdinen Ale.
