Coded Celestial Letter[edit]

Journal of Everard Wesley[edit]

This journal was written during the galavanting era of the Mellotones by Everard Wesley, the lutist of the group. Along with several personal tales of Everard's musical adventures, it lists the basic details of each of the members of the Mellotones along with the musical instrument they played.

Soft Step's Letter[edit]

Session 2: "Following Leads in Tradewind Cove" -- This letter was found in the vault buried within the Feldifair chateau, where the legendary Drum of Thunder was resting before it was stolen among a hoard of other treasures. The letter was sitting where the drum had been placed sometime earlier. It reads as follows:

  • So much for an impenetrable vault, ayy Errie? Look, if you want your life savings, your most prized possessions, and your favorite little ole Drum back, you need to sign over the rights to Feldifair’s Millworks and hand deliver them to my employer on The Battered Cove. Don’t worry, they’ll find you once you arrive. Just go to the Dreary Dreams Inn and by the time you come back, I’ll have this vault looking like I never even plundered it. Sincerely, Soft Step.

Tepozcaxic[edit]

(The following information is available only to the characters Kntanta, Atrox and Sisava)

This message was given to Kntanta by Huitzilli, written by Tepozcaxic.

"Praise be to the Undying and to her loyal subjects! A Malison undeserving of his rank, known as Quitzlac, has been banished from the nest and is now acting alone in brash and foolish ways. Sources reveal that he is gathering elven and hueyi scouts and warriors from any and all tribes for a grand sacrifice for his small community of equally foolish followers. It seems as though he plans to undergo the rituals necessary to transform himself into an Abomination. Not only are these acts deemed treasonous in the eyes of the Undying, they also compromise the integrity of the Her glorious mission.

We have it on good authority that you will soon be asked by the leaders within the Couatlán to investigate the disappearances of these warriors. You are to take on the mission with the full knowledge of the situation this message provides and ensure that your companions never learn of the true nature of the Messhikah and the Empire. The rest is up to your interpretation. If the opportunity to dispose of the wretch Quitzlac in a quiet fashion presents itself, take it. Otherwise, your highest priority is to avoid detection of the Messhikah connection to the disappearances at all costs.

May Teotl and the Couatls guide you expeditiously on your quest! The fate of the empire rests in your hands."

Brother Zeio[edit]

This message was given to Lats while he was staying at the Keep of Lady Leucosa Enna. (Episode 9: "The Grey Whistler and the Black Wind")

Brother Lats Boldengrin,

You are summoned back to the Monastery of the Black Wind at once. Upon your arrival, you will receive details pertaining to the nature of this request.

Sincerely,
Brother Zeio

Dejen[edit]

This note was found in a secret room in the Namara Library which contains multiple books on the history of the Empire and used to contain the fabled Canary Scrolls. (Episode 9: "The Grey Whistler and the Black Wind")

To those who would find the Canary Scrolls -- it is now hidden within the fleet. And I’m sure that the Empire is now aware of your presence within Namara, as the only individuals who would be interested in the scrolls, let alone know their true potential, could be none other than the Blue Bandits.

As I’m sure you know, proven traitors of the Empire are hung, and the proper authorities are searching for you as you read this note. And even if you were to somehow evade their grasp, you still have a mountain to climb in locating the scrolls within the Fleet: an army of ships and individuals who are all trained to seek and destroy any who might undermine them.

And perhaps this is my being overconfident, but I really do enjoy the thought of giving just the right hints, giving just the right amount of hope before smashing it all. It makes your fall that much sweeter! And I’ll be sure to be there to watch that last light in your eyes fade away as the noose is strung and your limp bodies dangle mere feet above the ground.

Sincerely,
Mr. Dejen

P.S. Read chapter five of this book. The description of the fall of Locqwerthalyn is quite impressive. Of course it’s important to remember the bias of the historian. History is always written by the victors, is it not?

Farlin[edit]

This note was found attached to the stake that had killed the vampire fledgling Farlin who was a known associate of Lord Diovax. (Episode 10: "A Vampire Lord's Betrayal")

Let it be known that the vampire hunters in service of the Empire are waging a war with the notorious Lord Diovax and all of his ilk. All vampiric abominations of our lord god Ulsted will be sought out and destroyed.

Henas[edit]

This letter was written to the oni known as Henas, found in his cave at the base of the Ishigawa Mountains along the River Hiroi. Its writer is unknown.

Henas,

You must keep all intruders from crossing the river. Keep whatever treasure you find on them. More instructions will come in the following weeks. Serve your master well and he will endow you with powers you’ve never known. Do not fail us, or you shall become hollow like the others.

SHI WA HAJIMARI NISUGINAI (translated from the common tongue of Tochku (Kotoba) as "DEATH IS ONLY THE BEGINNING") the letter also had a marking that matched the one seen in Lark's dreams.

Constance[edit]

'This letter was written by Constance to Amiri.

Amiri,

The Order of the Diamond Rose owes you much appreciation towards your financial contribution towards our most righteous organization. Make sure to deliver all of the goods accordingly, and please keep yourself relatively inconspicuous for these assignments. I know of your reputation for your love of flames and would like to see you still alive by the time Isthaarix comes around. I’ve heard that you two are rather fond of each other. How nice.

Keep in mind that the mistress shall arrive in a month’s time. I would advise you to not stand in her way when she is working. Of course you should know better than to do such a thing.

Let me know how things are with your business and I will get your next batch of resources in to Sjobo in due time.

Also, my sources tell me that Haazi has made it safely into Roanac with little trouble. Hopefully she’ll pull through for us. Her life depends on it…

Constance, TH 10057, November 24

Isthaarix[edit]

Document of Isthaarix, the Conniving, TH 10057, November 3

I, the great red dragon of Bottenhavet, have come to a clever realization in the past decade or so. Sjobo, the northern city, although aware of my existence, has seemed to forgotten my threat upon it.

I feel that the time is ripe to bring upon a renewed fear, as well as some new treasure for my hoard, either through a bribe, or through bloodshed, whichever I see fit for the occasion.

This simple letter is to go through the hands of my servants and make its way to you, Constance, leader of the Order of the Diamond Rose, so you shall know when to take your own sort of advantage out on the city and the knights that oppose you.

The grand usurpation shall take place on January 24. You shouldn't miss it for the world; just remember to stay out of my way. Although I may aid you at times like these, always remember that I am the superior being.

If you ever dare to cross my path, I will slaughter you and your Order.

Best regards,
Isthaarix, the Conniving

Jarric[edit]

[Insert hidden button, only for those who can read the Dwarven language of Bottenhavet Dvärglik

This note was found on Jarric's body after he was killed by the adventurers. It isn't signed by anyone.

Jarric,

The enclosed amount of money should warrant enough motivation to get off your ass and do some real work. I know you've been a bit anxious to get out onto the field again. Well here’s your chance.

Your targets names are: Kithri, Kossiss, Neveah, Exsilliuslova, Styrbjörn, Ulric, and Bündchen. Grab some nobodies with nothing to lose and throw them at ‘em. Once they’re dead, bring their heads back to me for the rest of your earnings. Anything else you find on them is yours to keep.

Best of luck on your hunting.

Red Wolf[edit]

This isn't a note at all. Instead, it's a story told by Red Wolf to a group of adventurers who have been under his patronage for several weeks. It was told on TH 10058, January 9.

Long before the time of Vartrynka and the barbarian hordes who founded Sjobia, the peoples of Bottenhavet lived in a lush expanse, filled with green forests and rushing rivers. Over ten thousand years ago, the great Wizard-King Merdin Threnalia created the Rose and with it ruled over all of the land. It was a great time in which all the city-states enjoyed a lasting peace.

However, when the Wizard-King died, the Rose was passed on to his son, Rosdin. The Rose and its power twisted the once noble Rosdin and he became one of the most evil tyrants ever to rule Bottenhavet. Whole cities were destroyed by Rosdin's absolute power. Eventually, the whole of Bottenhavet was cursed by the Diamond Rose, and its luscious terrain became a frigid wasteland that now endures an everlasting winter. The seas surrounding Bottenhavet froze for hundreds of miles, making it impossible for its inhabitants to leave.

A rebel group formed to stop Rosdin and destroy the Rose. This group, known as the Threnalian Knights, successfully rid the king of both his life and the Rose, and shattered the Rose into several pieces, spreading and hiding the shards deep underground all over Bottenhavet. This group has since secretly protected the pieces ensuring that nobody would ever again reassemble the manipulative Rose.

However, if the shards of the Rose have been discovered by others, the Threnalian Knights must collect these shards and relocate them.

Entries from the Journal of Suj Harrener, Archeologist Extraordinaire

TH 5688, June 7

The stories of these ruins have obviously long been discarded from history for one reason or another. The various artifacts we have found here thus far range from broken pottery and ancient weaponry all dating back to Abstratia, the Age of the Dreamer. Today my crew has uncovered yet another building that seems to be a government center of a sort (it has now been recorded on the map). The walls are decorated with vivid images that depict what seem to be various cultural traditions. One such depicted tradition strikes me as rather interesting. It shows a grand festival in which all of the crops are gathered to the city square and are distributed amongst the populace. Such crops range from bananas to oranges to papaya and guava. These luscious fruits are impossible to find nowadays in the whole of Bottenhavet. It seems that several thousands of years ago that was not the case…very interesting.

S. Harrener

TH 5688, June 12

After several days, I believe I have finally been able to translate the texts written out on the walls: ‘Daēza’ or some variation of this word seems to be the name of the city it once was…

TH 5688, June 14

Today, my crew uncovered something very interesting: A record that fits in accord with an ancient legend that we still sometimes hear around the campfires. It talks about an ancient and powerful artifact that was much feared by the peoples of Bottenhavet. It is written that it will bring apocalyptic destruction to the city of Daēza and others. This artifact very well could have been the cause of the city’s downfall in one way or another. Or this could all be my unjustified speculation.

TH 5688, June 22

After several hexus of digging, I have discovered many new exciting records that could very well change history as we now know it. Once I am finished here, I will return to Sjobo with fascinating news that the artifact does indeed still exist, or at least a fragment of it. It shall only be a couple more days.

TH 5688, June 23

The men state that they have heard strange noises coming from deeper within the ruins. I am beginning to get the sneaking suspicion that we are not alone here. Nonsense, it is simply paranoia.

June 25

Someone does not want us meddling here. Much of the crew has now gone missing and I don’t know how much longer

Nadaar[edit]

Nadaar's warning written to Chief Roak of the Ularen.

Chief Roak,

I have received word that the lizard men have taken upon themselves to purchase the slaves you have been capturing and putting them to good use. This bodes well for the Black Lord. I shall travel to the slavers' hill and see their progress for myself. The west shall be adequately defended. Our spy in Evenhelm says the heroes from Augusthaven are on their way. Be ready.

Nadaar

Schosis[edit]

Written orders to Hazrun in Evenhelm. It reveals the location of the Severed base in Vutha Valignat.

Hazrun,

Your services have proved very useful to the Severed. Verilis himself has ordered me to launch a heavy assault on the western wall of Evenhelm. We have been building several trebuchets and should be able to break past their strong defenses. We must tread lightly in the shadow of the Dark Lord, for word of Tarnis' death has spread. Do not break your cover until you are told to do so. We will have several Black soldiers to come get you in the event that they break through Evenhelm's walls. In three days, if you're still alive, we shall meet with Nadaar at the base in the disclosed location.

Schosis

Unknown[edit]

This letter is written to Nadaar's. It is unknown to the adventurers who wrote it.

Nadaar,

When you reach the camp, be sure to inspect all of the progress that is taking place on the outer sides of the hill. Report back to Hazrun once you gather all the information you need. He will report back to me. He has already encountered one of the adventurers from Augusthaven and has heard they are after the Ularen. Careful you leave no detail left out. I'm sure you know the consequences of dishonesty within the Severed by now.
