A Hollow New World

A view of Ryuku in the distance.

(DMed by David W.) After an extended stay with the mysterious and illustrious Kanjuro Uizado, the group of adventurers set out to take back the emerald pommel from Akaitana the Pundit in order to find the location of Sensokami's temple.

Episode 1: “Four Years Later”[edit]

Date: AB 1234, May 15

Four years have come to pass and the adventurers have lived comfortably in Uizado's Tower under the care and tutelage of Kanjuro Uizado himself. Kos-Mos had officially become the sole apprentice of Uizado, learning the ways of arcane magicks while her companions honed their skills in battle and other natural and learned talents.

Now the outside world has gone on rather unnoticed to the inhabitants of the tower. The zombies piling up around the tower were eradicated three years ago and only the occasional sole zombie wanders by. As time has passed, the characters have grown to trust Kanjuro Uizado, who has been repeatedly telling them that he's preparing them for the unknown calamities that may await them on the outside. His first request of them has evolved from merely stealing the pommel-gem from Akaitana's lair to destroying the dragon outright. He has also given them the location of Sensokami's temple, roughly twenty-five miles off the coast north the Wood of Ivory Claws.

After some final combat preparations and trainings, the adventurers stand ready (relatively) to face the unknown outside and begin their new adventure.

Notes: Malachai was given several magical weapons to fight evil with, including the wondrous Figurine of Tantron to help guide her on her path. Uizado upgraded Francis' weapons and armor with magical might. Stellaluna increased her abilities as a vampire, now able to change her form and climb on walls and ceilings. And Kos-Mos has grown into her own, mastering more arcane spells both on and off of the battlefield.

Episode 2: “Employed by the Pundit”[edit]

Date: AB 1234, May 15-20

As the adventurers left Uizado's Tower, they headed straight east toward the Dog Cut Mountains. A few uneventful days later, they came across a group of dwarves carrying a large chest through the mountains, heading east, southeast. Kos-Mos used her arcane abilities to understand the dwarves' language and also be able to understand and later communicate with them.

They quickly learned that the dwarves were taking the chest, supposedly filled with tribute money to a place called Tax Hill, otherwise known as Zeioka. Apparently, Akaitana the Pundit picks up the dwarves' weekly tribute here, along with tribute from other survivors of the plague. Using magic and talent, the trio followed the dwarf group stealthily until their leader, Teigor, stopped and commanded the others to open the chest. At that time, a huge herd of hollows surrounded the group. The adventurers held back, watching the dwarves defend themselves. Both Stellaluna and Kos-Mos helped in the fight, and the vampire managed to stay hidden afterward. However, Kos-Mos was detected and convinced the dwarves to lead him to Zeioka to perhaps see Akaitana himself and decide what to do from there.

Teigor led the Kos-Mos and the others to Zeioka, where Akaitana quickly revealed himself. After a long exchange of words, the adventurers were given two options. One: they could work for Akaitana as spies, weeding out any survivors in Dog Cut and either destroying them or have them pay their tribute to the dragon. Or two: in so many words, die. After some debate, the group decided to join with Akaitana. Teigor and the dwarves were sent back to their hidden location and the adventurers were led by Akaitana deeper into the mountains.

The red dragon explained that there was a town to the south where the people have suddenly vanished. Although he knows they haven't disappeared -- the meat on their plates and skewers is still warm by the time she gets to the village. Akaitana then sent the PCs southward in search of this village. Their mission is to demand and receive tribute from the village or destroy them all and bring proof back to Zeioka in ten days. It's taken them three days thus far to make it to the ruins, the shadows of which cover the village.

Notes: The ruins are nestled between a split mountain just north of the village. Kos-Mos has been tracking footprints belonging to a goliath that has led the party to the ruins themselves. The adventurers now have a scale belonging to Akaitana that can be of good use. Both Kos-Mos and Malachai have expressed their distaste for Akaitana and plan to betray him at an opportune time. Stellaluna, however, secretly wishes she could join up with the dragon and become more powerful than ever. But she is still loyal to her current companions.

Episode 3: “Into the Ruins of Gin-Sa”[edit]

Date: AB 1234, May 20

Continuing to follow the mysterious goliath using Kos-Mos' arcane tracking, the heroes found their way into old ruins whose northern entrance was crushed by nature long ago as made apparent by the alluvial fan above it. They quickly found the ruins to be haunted by ghosts and wraiths who wanted nothing but to suck their souls out of their bodies. After some hairy battles with the undead, they continued through a labyrinth of hallways which included a long chute that led the adventurers ever deeper into the haunted ruins, known as Gin-Sa.

The adventurers came into a large haunted with even more wraiths. However, a large goliath was spotted trying to cross a large pile of rubble dividing the room. The heroes thought it strange that the wraiths were paying no attention to the goliath, as if he didn't exist. And Stellaluna could see nothing but the shifting rubble where the half-giants feet stepped. After being spotted, the wraiths surrounding him suddenly attacked the adventurers. And as the battle began, the goliath sat back, content to merely observe as the adventurers struggled against their ethereal foes.

As the battle drew to a close, the half-giant applauded, satisfied by the display of battle-prowess the heroes gave. He introduced himself as Ilikan, a goliath of Gin-Ishi. After explaining to them that the talisman he carried kept him hidden from the undead, he convinced the weary adventurers to follow him deeper into the ruins.

After nearly three hours of navigating through a long, dark, cold maze of ancient hallways, the adventurers were led to a large sluice packed with ghosts. To their surprise, nearly three dozen goliaths were huddled here, crowded around small fires made in the stone and dirt floors and the dead hovered around them, oblivious to their presence.

Notes: Stellaluna convinced the more simple-minded Ilikan that her changeling abilities made her appear to be undead but that in fact she was just pretending. It is uncertain how long she can keep this charade going, especially now that she's to interact with a room full of undead-hating goliaths who might not all be as dull-minded as a vampire such as her can handle.
